Chile's fourth shipment of heifers to China this year has set sail
The Department of Agriculture and Livestock of the R. del Biobio Region of Chile (SAG) recently certified the health of the fourth batch of live cattle exported to China in 2022 at Talcahuano Terminal Portuario. In general, live cattle exported from Chile are heifers.
In Port Talcahuano, workers with Elite Export loaded 3,858 heifers onto the Galloway Express livestock carrier, according to Chile's PortalPortuario website.
"The heifers met China's health quarantine requirements and were successfully boarded by Elite Export," said Roberto Ferrada, head of the Bio Bio regional Bureau of Agriculture and Livestock.
"Before the export heifers are certified as healthy, staff from the R. de Maule and R. de la Araucania regions confirm negative tests for tuberculosis and bovine brucella antibodies through serum and field tests, in addition to a quarantine period." Ferada added that the shipment process also complied with relevant current regulations.
Pamela Yanez, agriculture secretary of Bio Bio Region (Seremi), spoke highly of the export process, saying, "We have good port conditions and road infrastructure to meet operational requirements."
Pablo Passeron, General manager of Talcahuano Port Terminal, said: "We are very satisfied with the performance of our workers in transport and we will continue to gain the trust of our customers and continue to develop this type of export business and contribute to the economic development of Talcahuano Port and Bio Bio region."
Alejandro Tudela, president of the port of Talcahuano, said: "Exporting the heifers cements the port of Talcahuano's position as the main Marine terminal for agricultural exports from southern Chile."
"Heifer Export is no longer a traditional export project, but a mature line of business and confirms the multi-purpose nature and operational capability of the terminal. The heifers will arrive at the port of Fuzhou in China in about a month." Tudela added.
