The first outbreak of highly pathogenic influenza A occurred in Honduras

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), on January 5, 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Honduras reported to WOAH that an outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic influenza A occurred in Dongduras.

 
The outbreak occurred in La Ceiba City, Atlantida Province and was confirmed on 3 January 2023. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Clinical and laboratory tests found that 43 brown pelicans became ill, of which 41 died, and 2 were killed and disposed of.
 
The outbreak is not over yet, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Honduras will submit a follow-up report on a weekly basis.
