Portugal Recalls L’ORÉAL Products Containing Prohibited Ingredients

Portugal has ordered a recall of L’Oreal-branded cosmetics containing a Prohibited  ingredient, according to The Portugal News.

From March 2022, Portugal bans the use of butylphenylmethylpropionic acid in cosmetics. The products in question had banned chemicals listed in their ingredients and had to be pulled from the market.

Although L'Oréal Portugal notified Infarmed of the recall and its withdrawal from the national market of cosmetic products containing butylphenylmethylpropionic acid in its composition, it appears, from the analysis of the information provided so far, that the company cannot Cosmetic products that demonstrate compliance with the recall of non-methacin ingredients in the entire national market.

In March 2023, L'Oreal announced its investment in the biotechnology company Genomatica (Geno) to develop and manufacture "biotechnology based alternatives" for key ingredients in the formulation of "cosmetics, personal care, and cleaning products".
