Clariant lays the foundation stone for its third factory in China

On September 18, Clariant laid the cornerstone of a state-of-the-art catalyst manufacturing facility in the Pinghu Dushan Gang Economic Development Zone in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province. Construction began in the third quarter of 2020 and Clariant expects to start full production by 2022.

The new site will focus on the production of CATOFINTM catalysts for the propane dehydrogenation process, which is used to prepare olefins, including propylene. CATOFINTM provides propylene producers with excellent annual production yields compared to other technologies due to its very high reliability and production efficiency, thus improving the overall profitability of the plant.

The new plant in Jiaxing will be Clariant's most digitized production site to date in the Catalysts business and will integrate advanced automation systems throughout the production process. When completed, the site will be Clariant's third catalyst plant in China. It will enhance the existing catalyst operations network, which also includes a joint venture with the North Huajin Group in Panjin and a wholly owned plant in Jinshan, Shanghai.
