Lanxess and Covestro reach production agreement for key basic chemicals

Recently, LANXESS announced that it will cooperate with Covestro to produce raw materials that are more sustainable and have a smaller carbon dioxide footprint, and have reached an agreement on the production of key basic chemicals.

Lanxess said the company would purchase chlorine, sodium hydroxide and hydrogen from Covestro's production sites in Leverkusen and Krefeld-Uerdingen. At the same time, when Covestro produces products supplied to LANXESS, about 1/3 of the electricity will come from hydropower with guaranteed origin.

Klaus Schäfer, Chief Technology Officer of Covestro: "Covestro is seeking to use electricity exclusively from renewable sources in its production processes and thus become climate-neutral in its operations by 2035. - Proportional use of energy in electrolysis plants in Westphalia, with a reported annual reduction of 120,000 tons of CO2 emissions."
