Brightseed creates AI platform for phytonutrient development
Artificial intelligence can also be used to advance phytonutrient development.
The rise of plant-based products has led to the development of more phytonutrients, and Innova MarketInsights lists the "phytonutrient revolution" as one of the top 10 trends for 2020. Phytonutrients, in particular, are receiving a lot of attention from the scientific community for their unique functionality.
Bioscience company Brightseed has created Forager, the world's first AI platform for phytonutrient research, for the discovery, development and commercialization of phytonutrients.
Forager identifies and validates newly discovered phytonutrients by analyzing their nutritional content, screening for discovery, and mapping them to human health, so they can be applied to the development of functional foods and medicines. Currently, Forager has elucidated nearly 300,000 phytonutrients, and is on track to exceed one million by the end of the year.
According to the AI white paper, the use of AI technology will enable the global food and beverage market to grow at a CAGR of over 42.18% through 2021. Apart from its use in product development, trend forecasting, and nutrient development, AI is also playing a significant role in food safety traceability, supply chain, non-destructive testing, and automated sorting.
In the future, we can look forward to an era of self-service across the industry. From the source of agricultural supply to product packaging, from food development to food safety, AI will seamlessly link every step of the manufacturing process, enabling dramatic increases in productivity and innovation. At the same time, the precision of AI will also accelerate product segmentation and drive the food industry into the era of personalization.
