Mitsubishi Chemical Bioengineering Plastics Receives Certification

ECHEMI 2023-03-15

Recently, Mitsubishi Chemical Group stated that its plant-based biomass engineering plastics have obtained two European biomass product certifications: one from the German certification body Din Certco; the other from the Dutch certification body Nen.

Mitsubishi Chemical stated that these certifications are based on a certification and labeling program aimed at developing and expanding the bio-based product market. Biomass content testing is conducted in accordance with international standards, and products that meet the standards can use certification labels.

It is reported that Mitsubishi Chemical's Durabio brand product is a bioengineering plastic made from isosorbide, a raw material made from renewable plants. The production process reduces oil consumption and also helps reduce greenhouse gases, as the plants that produce the raw material absorb carbon dioxide as they grow.

The company added that in terms of impact resistance, weather resistance, transparency, optical properties, etc., the company's Durabio biomass engineering plastics have better performance than traditional general-purpose engineering plastics, and can be used for automotive interior and exterior parts, optical and Production of components for electronic equipment as well as everyday goods.
