Eastman announced that its new dimethylethanolamine (DMAE) plant has recently been successfully put into operation at the Nanjing plant. Chen Xiaoyan, general manager of Eastman's Nanjing plant, led the team to launch the project a few years ago and overcome various challenges including the new crown epidemic.

Sabine Ketsman, vice president and general manager of Eastman's Care Chemicals and Animal Nutrition business, said: "Even with the spread of the global epidemic, the construction of this project has maintained an excellent safety record. I am proud of our entire team."

Ketsman emphasized that water treatment is critical to solving the world's growing water shortage.

"The demand for clean water has a real impact on people's daily life and personal health and well-being," she said. "The commissioning of the project illustrates how our products and solutions can effectively improve people's quality of life."

As the world's largest producer of DMAE and other alkyl alkanolamines, Eastman also has similar production facilities in Belgium and the United States. Eastman Nanjing plant produces methylamine and dimethylacetamide. The existing alkyl alkanolamine plant produces DMAE, MDEA (methyldiethanolamine), MMEA (methylmonoethanolamine) and MDIPA (methyldiiso Propanolamine). Other growth projects for the Nanjing plant are also being planned.

"The Asia-Pacific region is a very important growth area," Ketsman said. "The Nanjing plant will become a key production base for us to meet the future needs of customers in China and the entire Asia-Pacific region."

In addition to water treatment, the Eastman Care Chemicals business also sells various intermediates and specialty additives for the personal and home care, pharmaceutical, food and crop protection markets.
