Eastman Invests in Interlayer Production in Europe

Eastman Chemical Company has announced that it is investing to upgrade and expand extrusion production capabilities for its interlayer product line at its manufacturing facility in Ghent, Belgium.

The investment will enhance Eastman’s supply capabilities to meet growing regional and global demand for Saflex polyvinyl butyral (PVB) products in the premium automotive market, while also preparing the facility for future growth in the automotive and construction sectors. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.

Strong macro trends of increased connectivity, autonomous driving and electrification are driving increased demand for Eastman’s premium automotive products, including new solutions such as Saflex Horizon Vision for head-up displays, Saflex color and solar portfolios, and Evoca RSL for electric vehicles. Saflex interlayers are made of PVB film sandwiched between two sheets of glass.
