Beigene's Baiyueze ® won the Swiss Galen Prize 2023

yaozh.com 2023-06-08

On June 7, 2023, Beigene announced that its self-developed BTK inhibitor Baiyueze ® (Chinese generic name: Zbrutinib) won the 2023 Galen Award for "the Most Innovative New anti-tumor Drug".

In 1970, Roland Mehl established the Prix Galien Awards in memory of the father of medicine and modern pharmacology. The Prix Galien Awards are designed to recognize outstanding scientific innovations to improve human health and promote the development of drugs and pharmacy. At present, more than a dozen countries, such as The United States, Switzerland, Belgium and Germany, have set up the Galien Prize, which is managed by The Galien Foundation. The Galen Prize is known as the "Nobel Prize in biopharmaceutical field" worldwide.

In China, zebrutinib has been approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for the treatment of adult patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), adult patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), and adult patients with Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM) who have received at least one previous treatment. It is currently the only new generation BTK inhibitor approved by the NMPA for the first-line treatment of CLL/SLL patients and WM.

Globally, zbrutinib has been approved for multiple indications in more than 65 markets, including the United States, China, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, South Korea, and Switzerland.

In addition, the clinical development program for zebrutinib is extensive worldwide, with 35 clinical trials in 29 countries and regions, enrolling more than 4900 subjects. In ALPINE, the largest head-to-head study in relapsed or refractory (R/R) CLL/SLL, zebrutinib achieved dual superiority in overall response rate (ORR) and progression-free survival (PFS) over ibrutinib, as assessed by an independent review committee, reinforcing its potential as a "best-in-class" BTK inhibitor.
