Evonik Launches New Defoaming Agent that Combines the Best Properties of Silicone and Bio-Based Materials
Evonik Leading Beyond Chemistry is expanding its TEGO® Foamex coating additive product line and launching the new TEGO® Foamex 8880 defoaming agent. The new product is targeted at water-based ink and coating applications, uses a unique new mixing technology, contains more than 50% bio-based materials in the solid content, and complies with multiple food contact regulations.
TEGO® Foamex 8880 can be easily added to water-based inks at any stage of ink production, including on-site addition on the printing production line, and has excellent foam suppression and defoaming properties.
Courtney Thurau, Head of Global Market Segment Printing Inks at Evonik Coating Additives said, different technologies have different advantages. Traditional silicone defoaming agent are usually added during the ink adjustment stage, but are not necessarily the first choice for on-site use in printing production lines.
TEGO® Foamex 8880 is a non-ionic emulsion containing bio-based polymers and polyethersiloxane in solids. It is solvent and mineral oil free and complies with many food contact regulations.
“With the launch of this new defoaming agent, we are better able to support our customers in developing environmentally friendly, resource-saving coatings and ink formulations. Thanks to its unique properties, TEGO® Foamex 8880 is ideal for water-based flexible coatings and gravure inks on paper or board substrates.” adds Courtney Thurau.
Evonik's Coating Additives business line offers a rich product portfolio for printing ink applications. This business line also has a broad portfolio of coating formulations for automotive, architectural, industrial and other applications.
