FMC launches Ataplan to combat soil-borne fungal diseases in Brazil

2023-10-27

FMC has launched a new biopesticide, Ataplan, for the Brazilian market. This product contains Bacillus velezensis CEPA RTI301 and Bacillus subtilis CEPA RTI477, which are used against major soil-borne fungal diseases such as fusarium, trichotonia and colletotrichum

Ataplan target diseases that affect seed germination and emergence, causing seedling rot, reducing crop potential by 10-40% and affecting crop quality. These fungal diseases are usually present in crop stubble, host plants, or enter the field through contaminated machine tools and unlicensed seeds.

This new biocide from FMC works on contact with multiple mechanisms of action and can be used on major crops affected by soil-borne diseases. Antonio Soares, Bioproduct manager at FMC, explained: "Ataplan ensures the best possible start to growth because it reduces seedling mortality and provides more durable soil-borne disease control.

The bacteria in the product are endospores, which have high flexibility in use and good compatibility with chemical products. Antonio pointed out that the product can be used as a supplement to chemical fungicides, thanks to its mechanism of action and the ability to colonize the roots of the crop, the seedling protection period is extended, providing more effective protection for the crop. He also stressed that unlike other fungus-derived products, Ataplan can be used in all weather conditions and the use of the product will not affect farmers' existing field management. The product is recommended as a seed and furrow treatment agent.

″Antonio said: "There is a growing global demand for sustainable solutions, and since 2007, FMC has been a pioneer in the biologics sector in Brazil. We invest heavily in global biologics research and development to contribute to agriculture and provide farmers with a portfolio of products that are effective against pests and diseases for generations to come.
