On November 3, 2023, the Australia and New Zealand Food Standards Authority (FSANZ) released Notice No. 268-23, granting approval for Application No. A1250. This approval allows for the use of amylopectin from genetically modified Bacillus subtilis, specifically the enzyme pullulanase, as a processing aid.


As outlined in the notification, the pullulanase is derived from Bacillus subtilis and incorporates the pullulanase gene sourced from Bacillus deramificans. Its application as a processing aid is intended for starch processing, facilitating the production of glucose syrup and other hydrolyzed starch products.
