EFSA Proposes Revised Maximum Residue Limit for Propamocarb in Honey

On November 24, 2023, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced its intention to revise the maximum residue limit (MRL) for propamocarb in honey. The request for modification was submitted by Bayer AG Crop Science Division in accordance with Chapter 6 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005. Following a thorough evaluation, the EFSA has concluded that the residues resulting from the use of propamocarb are unlikely to pose a risk to consumer health in both the short-term and long-term.


The applicant, Bayer AG Crop Science Division, submitted a request to the competent national authority in Greece to modify the existing maximum residue limit for propamocarb in honey. The data provided in support of the request were deemed sufficient to propose MRL revisions specifically for honey. Adequate analytical methods for enforcement are available to measure propamocarb residues in honey at a validated limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.01 mg/kg.


Based on the results of the risk assessment, the EFSA has concluded that the short-term and long-term intake of propamocarb residues resulting from its use in accordance with reported agricultural practices is unlikely to present a risk to consumer health. This evaluation takes into account the potential exposure of consumers to propamocarb residues in honey and the available scientific evidence on its safety.
