Evonik strengthens its biosolutions with the establishment of the Botanicals & Natural Actives segment
Evonik announced the establishment of a new segment to strengthen its supply of botanicals and natural active. The division leverages its legacy product portfolio as well as expertise gained through a series of acquisitions to meet the growing market demand for botanicals extracts and natural actives, complementing its recently established Dermatological Research Institute.
The Botanicals & Natural Actives segment was founded after Evonik made several acquisitions in the biotechnology sector: In 2016, Evonik acquired ALKION Biopharma, a cosmetic active ingredients company specializing in biotechnology development; in 2021, it acquired Botanica, a Swiss sustainable botanical medicine pioneer, and Wilshire, a phytochemical supplier. In 2023, the acquisition of Argentinian biotech company Novachem further expanded its product portfolio of natural and sustainable active ingredients for skin and hair care.
As part of the Nutrition & Care division of Evonik Life Sciences, the new Botanicals & Natural Actives segment offers customers highly differentiated biotech natural actives as standard products, using a business-for-business (B4B) approach, and offers tailor-made plant-inspired solutions for its beauty and personal care product portfolio.
"Nature is an infinite source of inspiration for beauty and happiness. We see huge market opportunities waiting to be tapped. I look forward to more cooperation and exchanges with our customers." said Kai-Steffen Krannig, Head of Evonik’s Botanicals & Natural Actives segment.
Evonik's traditional product portfolios of TEGO® curcumone natural plant extracts, TEGO®enlight natural brightening mixture and TEGO® natural betaine skin natural amino acid derivatives have also become the core of the new market segment. Thanks to its recently launched Skin Research Institute, the company will be better able to meet market demand for botanical extracts and natural actives.
The formation of the Botanicals & Natural Actives segment is part of Evonik’s strategic transformation of its Care Solutions business line into a professional partner for the sustainable personal care industry. By leveraging the synergies between these powerful and complementary technology platforms, Evonik is enhancing its entire product portfolio, creating new universal solutions, opening up new markets, accelerating growth and creating significant value.
