Mitsui Chemicals invests in cell culture technology company FullStem
Mitsui Chemicals announced that it has invested in FullStem Co. Ltd, a company that commercializes high-density, large-scale stem cell culture technology, through the 321FORCE Global Innovation Fund.
FullStem has developed the Achieva-CS, a high-density, large-scale stem cell culture device that uses proprietary methods for high-density, three-dimensional, large-scale culture and recovery. The company's philosophy is to have a device that anyone can use safely and easily, and the company now aims to commercialize its technology for large-scale stem cell culture.
Achieva-CS uses special nonwoven fabric as a scaffold for stem cell culture to achieve a more compact, high-density culture area. This facilitates the cultivation of stem cells on a large scale cheaply and under conditions close to those found in vivo. In addition to selling Achieva-CS, FullStem is working to develop large-scale culture technologies for medical applications using the technology and sell related products.
Mitsui Chemicals is seeking joint development with FullStem to expand its business in the cell culture field by leveraging FullStem's unique materials. Cell culture is a key area of new business development for Mitsui Chemicals, and the company is relying on its technology and assets to develop materials that can make practical use of Achieva-CS in a wide range of applications. Through 321FORCE's investment in FullStem, Mitsui Chemicals intends to further explore business opportunities in the field of cell culture, allowing the company to enrich its new business portfolio.
