CJ OLIVE YOUNG targets Japan for strategic expansion
CJ Olive Young Corp., South Korea's leading beauty retail chain, will expand its global footprint by establishing a subsidiary in Japan in the first half of this year. The move underscores the company's strategic push into overseas markets it considers most important, such as the United States.
The decision to enter the Japanese market follows a significant rise in sales of CJ Olive Young's private label products in the region, with an average increase of 125% since 2020. Sales surged 76% in the first quarter alone compared to the same period last year, and the company is set to supply these products directly to local dealers in Japan.
Although CJ Olive Young has not yet confirmed plans to open directly operated offline stores in Japan, the success of its own brands has been a key driver of expansion. The company noted that Japanese consumers' consumption patterns are similar to Koreans, and their preference for Korean beauty products is growing. This combination of culture and market provides CJ Olive Young with a ripe opportunity to replicate its domestic success internationally.
