BYK offers PFAS-free additives for continuous processes

ECHEMI 2024-05-30

BYK offers its customers in the thermoplastics industry two PFAS-free product solutions that address many current challenges in the production of films, pipes, profiles, fibers, and more. BYK-MAX P 4109 and BYK-MAX P 4110 prevent melt fracture, reduce melt viscosity, reduce die deposits, and speed up material changes.

When processing polyolefins, high shear forces, high temperatures, and friction sometimes occur in the machine, leading to melt fracture or die deposits. To prevent these undesirable side effects and optimize production, fluorinated processing additives have been frequently used to date to ensure good yields and defect-free finished parts. However, there are currently international legal initiatives to restrict the use of fluoropolymers (PFAS).

BYK has developed alternative additives that are free of PFAS but still have the usual positive effects on processes and results. BYK-MAX P 4109 and BYK-MAX P 4110 are two new polymer processing additives (PPAs) from BYK that are now available and fully meet these requirements.

They are PFAS-free while enabling high production speeds, preventing melt fracture and reducing die deposits, leading to less maintenance and less downtime.
