A new type of PPO herbicide, Tiafenacil, has been widely concerned in the non-selective herbicide market

Tiafenacil is a new uracil herbicide developed by Farm Hannong in 2009. Launched in South Korea in 2018, it is mainly used for soybeans, rape, paddy, corn, wheat and other crops, and can also be used as a defoliator for cotton and other crops. The patent expires on September 23, 2029.

In 2009, the Korea Institute of Chemical Technology and Dongbu HiTek Co.,Ltd.applied for patents on compounds based on Tiafenacil, including PCT patents, European patents, U.S. patents, and Chinese patents. This series of patents has been licensed in about 30 countries, including the United States, Japan, China, and Australia.

European Patent: EP2343284, filed on September 24, 2009, expiring on September 23, 2029. 

Us Patent: US2011224083, filed on September 24, 2009, expires on September 24, 2029. 

Chinese patent: CN102203071B (ZL200980142137.8), applied for on September 24, 2009, expires on September 23, 2029; Name of invention: uracil compound and herbicide thereof.

 

Prospect 

 

Tiafenacil is a new PPO inhibitor. It has the advantages of high activity, low dosage, wide insecticidal spectrum, short residual period, etc. It shows real significant efficacy on grass weeds including annual ryegrass, and is harmless to humans and animals, safe to use, and has good toxicological properties.

 

Since its registration and listing in 2018, Tiafenacil has attracted wide attention in the non-selective herbicide market abroad, and has successively obtained registration in Australia, the United States, Canada, Brazil and other countries. In China, such compounds, including Saflufenacil and Butafenacil, are seriously underestimated herbicide varieties. On the one hand, its production cost is relatively high in the extinction market, which increases its end use cost; on the other hand, it has a high use technology in crop use, and the overcapacity of old varieties in China and the slow iteration also have a certain impact on the promotion of new varieties. However, with the optimization of the process and the progress of technology, especially the development of transgenic technology at the application end, the future of Tiafenacil will have a good market prospect.
