PPG invests $300 million to build paint and coatings plant in Tennessee and upgrade existing facilities

ECHEMI 2024-07-05

PPG announced plans to build a new manufacturing plant in Loudoun County, Tennessee, USA. The company, which produces paints, coatings and specialty materials, will invest $300 million over the next four years to meet the growing demand for paints and coatings in the automotive industry. The new 250,000-square-foot plant will produce paint and coatings products and solutions for automakers and automotive parts suppliers.

According to the company, the new plant will employ 130 workers, produce 11 million gallons of paints and coatings per year, and will be operational in 2026. In addition, PPG's investment will be used to add new equipment and processes to enhance its plant operations in Cleveland, Ohio and San Juan del Rio, Mexico.

Tim Knavish, PPG chairman and CEO, said in a recent interview: "Innovation is at the forefront of PPG's goal to protect and beautify the world. These investments will continue to modernize and digitize our manufacturing capabilities, and PPG, as the premier single-source automotive coatings supplier, remains focused on quality and service to our customers. As U.S. manufacturing recovers, PPG will use this new plant and our other plant investments to maximize quality, improve operational efficiency and reduce product complexity across our manufacturing range."

Alisha Bellezza, PPG senior vice president of automotive coatings, added: "As the automotive industry continues to transform, we are excited to expand our manufacturing capabilities to meet the changing needs of automotive customers. The strategic location of PPG's new plant in Tennessee also creates a more efficient and effective supply chain, close to many automotive manufacturing plants, which will further enhance our customers' service experience."
