Tirzepatide research peptide performs well among Chinese diabetic patients
As a disease that seriously threatens human health, the number of Chinese diabetic patients has increased from 90 million to 140 million in the past decade. It has now become a major disease second only to cancer and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and is a veritable "sweet killer". Drug therapy is the main way to control blood sugar, and taking medicine regularly as prescribed by a doctor is the preferred treatment for diabetic patients. In May 2022, tirzepatide research peptide was approved for marketing by the US FDA, and its indication is as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes.
The press release pointed out that tirzepatide research peptide is the first and only GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist approved by the US FDA, representing the first new class of hypoglycemic drugs approved for marketing in the past decade.
Tirzepatide research peptide is a new type of weekly dual agonist of glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP, also known as gastric inhibitory polypeptide) receptor and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. It is different from traditional GLP-1 receptor agonists. It is a "dual agonist" and its appearance will change the current treatment concept of type 2 diabetes.
GLP-1 and GIP are "incretin hormones" naturally secreted by the human gastrointestinal tract. Tirzepatide research peptide can selectively bind to and simultaneously stimulate GIP and GLP-1 receptors, promote insulin secretion, reduce glucagon levels, reduce ectopic fat deposition, and improve insulin resistance through multiple mechanisms, delay gastric emptying, and reduce food intake.
This approval is based on the Phase 3 SURPASS clinical trial. The results of the study showed that compared with the control group, blood sugar (A1C) decreased by an average of 1.8%-2.1% after treatment with 5mg tirzepatide research peptide; blood sugar (A1C) decreased by an average of 1.7%-2.4% after treatment with 10mg or 15mg tirzepatide research peptide. In addition, in terms of key secondary endpoints, the tirzepatide treatment group showed significantly greater weight loss compared with all controls.
In 2023, the authoritative medical journal Nature Medicine published data on tirzepatide research peptide in the Chinese population (SURPASS-AP-Combo clinical trial results). The results of the study showed that tirzepatide research peptide is effective as a second-line or third-line treatment for Chinese patients with diabetes.
Specific data: At week 40, the glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) of diabetic patients treated with 5mg tirzepatide decreased by 2.24%, 10mg tirzepatide decreased by 2.44%, and 15mg tirzepatide decreased by 2.49%, while the control group only decreased by 0.95%.
At the same time, all diabetic patients treated with tirzepatide research peptide lost weight significantly, with an average weight loss of 5.0 kg in the 5mg tirzepatide group, 7.0 kg in the 10mg tirzepatide group, 7.2 kg in the 15mg tirzepatide r group, and 1.5 kg in the control group.
Diabetes patients are generally familiar with glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), which is one of the necessary examination items for diabetes and the gold standard for evaluating long-term blood sugar control. For every 1% decrease in HbA1c, the probability of diabetes-related death will decrease by 21%, and the probability of microvascular complications will decrease by 37%.
For nearly 60 years, the treatment of type 2 diabetes has been mainly based on hypoglycemic treatment, and intensive treatment methods are limited to insulin. The purpose of tirzepatide research peptide treatment is not only to lower blood sugar, but also to achieve weight loss and prevent cardiovascular events. The emergence of tirzepatide has brought new hope to diabetic patients and has become an important choice for diabetic patients.
