BASF sells another business! Flocculants sector transferred to Solenis

ECHEMI 2024-07-19

BASF has signed an agreement to sell its flocculants business for mining applications to specialty chemicals manufacturer Solenis.

The sale of the flocculants business is part of BASF's continued portfolio optimization to focus on strategic core areas. Subject to approval, the transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2024. The parties agreed not to disclose the financial details of the transaction.

BASF's flocculants portfolio includes products for solid and liquid separation and material handling in mining applications.

“BASF continuously evaluates its portfolio to strengthen our strategic focus. The search for strategic partners plays an important role in this. For our portfolio of flocculants for mining applications, we have found such a partner in Solenis and we are confident that this divestiture will further promote and develop the product range in the future to meet customer needs,” said Anup Kothari, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE.

“We are convinced that the agreement with Solenis will bring great value to our mining customers. At the same time, we will be able to further focus on the continued development and commercialization of flotation reagents and expand our innovative solutions in the field of solvent extraction and leaching,” added Caren Hoffmann, Vice President of BASF’s Mining Solutions business.

In 2019, BASF had divested its paper wet-end and water chemicals business to Solenis, creating a leading global solutions provider for the paper and water treatment industries. As part of the merger, BASF and Solenis entered into medium- and long-term supply agreements and business relationships, including supply agreements for polyacrylamide and polyacrylamide-based products, and BASF divested its production sites in Bradford and Grimsby, UK, and Kwinana, Australia.
