Sika doubles mortar production capacity at Bekasi plant in Indonesia

ECHEMI 2024-08-14

Sika has more than doubled the production capacity of its largest manufacturing plant in Indonesia, Bekasi. Located near the capital Jakarta, the Bekasi plant specializes in the production of mortars such as tile adhesives and caulking agents, as well as wall and facade systems.

With this expansion and its expanded distribution network, Sika is able to meet the growing demand for infrastructure, residential and commercial projects in the world's fourth most populous country.

"Indonesia is one of the most dynamic markets in Southeast Asia, and this significant expansion of the supply chain enables us to better meet the strong demand in this market. Driven by rapid urbanization and strong population growth, it also allows Sika to further develop in this important market."

Indonesia is one of the top five tile markets in the world. To meet the strong demand, Sika has now increased the production capacity of its Bekasi plant, which was built in 2019. The expanded plant has more advanced production lines and larger storage capacity, and also serves as the company's distribution center in Indonesia. Currently, Sika has more than 600 employees and four mortar plants in Indonesia, with Bekasi being the largest.

Sika has tripled the size of its distributor network in Indonesia. As of 2024, the company sells its products through 30,000 sales points across the country. This successful business model is also being replicated in other major markets, such as China and India.

Indonesia's construction market is estimated to be worth more than $277 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6% by 2028. In September 2023, the government approved investments equivalent to $28.9 billion in infrastructure projects. In addition, the country is investing in a green transition, with plans to increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix from 12% in 2022 to 40% in 2030.
