PPG expands Malaysia plant to manufacture low-friction coatings

ECHEMI 2024-09-02

PPG announced it has expanded its facility in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, to produce nonstick coatings for cookware, industrial bakeware and low-friction applications. The facility now has additional capacity to meet growing regional coatings demand and has added space dedicated to providing valuable services to customers, including a state-of-the-art testing laboratory.

“Our investment in this facility underscores our commitment to growth in the region. We are proud to provide our customers in Asia Pacific with more consistent and reliable supply as well as additional value-added services,” said Irene Tasi, PPG senior vice president, industrial coatings. “The capacity expansion in Petaling Jaya allows us to better meet the growing demand for high-performance nonstick and low-friction coatings.”

The facility is now equipped with five new waterborne and solventborne nonstick low-friction coatings production lines. This dual capability enables PPG to customize solutions to meet a wide range of customer needs and product specifications.

The Petaling Jaya facility will focus on sustainable advantage coating solutions to serve customers in the energy sector, as these low-friction coatings offer the high corrosion resistance and controlled torque required for oil and gas applications.

"Our investment in the Petaling Jaya facility reflects our commitment to the growing number of local customers who rely on our high-performance coatings," said Denise Lu, PPG general manager, industrial coatings, Asia Pacific (excluding Greater China and Taiwan). "This expansion also demonstrates our commitment to growing our portfolio of sustainable advantage solutions, especially for the kitchen and bakeware industries."
