Chemical Manufacturers Association Releases Report Revealing "Staggering" Challenges in Implementing Circular Economy!

ECHEMI 2024-11-01

The Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM) recently released its 2024 annual sustainability report in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, aiming to advocate for the concept of green growth.

The report, themed "Focusing on the Circular Economy," delves into the main strategies of member companies in practicing the circular economy, covering the current situation and practices in material innovation, green production, recycling, and other areas, and analyzes the challenges and potential opportunities faced.

The circular economy is an economic model dedicated to reducing resource waste and maximizing resource utilization efficiency. Unlike the traditional linear economic model, the circular economy follows the principle of "acquire-produce-recycle," aiming to build a closed-loop system to extend the life of products, materials, and resources as much as possible.

AICM stated in its announcement, "We sincerely hope that the 2024 report can provide references and insights for the sustainable development path and policy trends of the chemical industry, helping all sectors of society to understand more comprehensively and objectively the positive role played by the chemical industry in promoting social harmony and driving green development."

AICM believes that the effective implementation of the circular economy by companies is an important way for the sustainable development of the chemical industry. The 2024 report elaborates on the connection between responsible care, sustainable development, and the circular economy.

The report provides a detailed overview and interpretation of the circular economy-related policies of the chemical industry, explores the implementation paths and measures taken by the chemical industry in the transition to a circular economy, and points out the challenges and opportunities faced during the transition to a circular economy.

Professor Li Qunsheng from Beijing University of Chemical Technology pointed out that the implementation of the circular economy in the chemical industry relies on the support of process and product innovation.

Professor Li stated that process and product innovation not only promote the conservation and efficient use of resources but also facilitate the reduction and recycling of waste, reducing the impact of economic activities on natural resources and injecting strong momentum into the development of the circular economy in the chemical industry.
