Jaguar Land Rover Achieves Breakthrough in Seat Foam Recycling Technology
On November 27, 2024, Jaguar Land Rover, in collaboration with Dow and Adient, announced a technological breakthrough in recycling used polyurethane seat foam, marking its first application in the production of new seats. Preliminary tests show that materials containing 20% recycled polyols are viable, with plans to increase this proportion. Jaguar Land Rover aims to conduct large-scale tests of this material in pre-production vehicles. Recycling polyurethane foam is challenging, but through a closed-loop supply chain, Jaguar Land Rover can reduce emissions, eliminate waste, and provide low-carbon seat foam. The recycled polyurethane foam will be used for "circular seats," expected to cut CO2 emissions by half, with each seat reducing over 44 kg of CO2 emissions—equivalent to charging nearly 3,000 smartphones.
