EU Bans Amphibianicin Pyrimidine Fungicide by 2025

The European Commission recently made a decision to terminate the marketing authorization of the fungicide amphenicone early. According to the decision, the use of this fungicide will be banned in the European Union from 15 January 2025.

Amphenirone has prophylaxis, treatment, and antisporulation effects against a variety of pathogens, including botrytis, candida, and sclerotinia. Previously, the active ingredient was mainly used for the protection of cherry, strawberry and peach trees. Although the registration period was extended until May 31, 2026, pending final approval, the companies that applied for the extension did not provide support. In view of this, the European Commission considers that further extension of the registration period for the substance is no longer justified and has therefore decided to set an earlier deadline to allow sufficient time for Member States to withdraw the registration of plant protection products containing the active substance. As a result, the registration period was shortened to January 15, 2025.
