Borosil Renewables Announces 50% Expansion of Solar Glass Production Capacity

ECHEMI 2025-01-09

Borosil Renewables Limited, India’s largest and oldest solar glass manufacturer, has announced a 50% expansion of its solar glass production capacity, re-emphasizing its commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat. Solar glass is a key component in the manufacturing of photovoltaic solar panels.

The previously shelved expansion plan is now back on track and was approved by the company’s board of directors on December 18, 2024, based on the notification issued by the Ministry of Finance on December 4, 2024, which will target imports from China and Vietnam. With this expansion, the company’s production capacity will be increased from 1,000 tons per day to 1,500 tons per day.

Establishing a reference price for imported glass will restore Borosil Renewables’ profit margins to higher levels, thereby supporting its expansion plans. Increased domestic solar glass production will create a more robust and reliable supply chain for domestic PV module manufacturers to supply this critical component.

Almost all raw materials, skilled labor and technology can be sourced within India, thus avoiding unnecessary foreign exchange expenditure while creating much-needed local jobs.
