Merck Plans Major Workforce Expansion in India to Boost Operations
Merck, known as MSD outside the U.S. and Canada, is set to significantly expand its workforce in India, with plans to increase employee numbers from approximately 1,800 to around 2,700 by the end of this year. This announcement was made by Executive Vice President Dave Williams during the BioAsia conference in Telangana.
The expansion reflects Merck's commitment to enhancing its capabilities across various therapeutic areas, including oncology, diabetes, vaccines, and animal health. The company is also focusing on establishing new technology-related centers, having recently opened a new technology facility in Hyderabad.
Williams emphasized the need for digital innovators who can leverage technology to expedite the development of new treatments. He expressed confidence that the workforce could double within a few years, highlighting the company's long-term investment in the Indian market.
As Merck strengthens its presence in India, it aims to play a pivotal role in advancing healthcare solutions while contributing to local economic growth. The company's strategic hiring plans underscore its dedication to harnessing innovation and technology in the pharmaceutical sector, making this an exciting time for both Merck and the Indian healthcare landscape.
