Syngene Acquires Its First US Manufacturing Facility

ECHEMI 2025-03-14

Syngene, a global contract research, development and manufacturing organization (CRDMO), recently announced the acquisition of its first biologics facility in the US, which is equipped with multiple monoclonal antibody (mAbs) production lines.

Syngene USA Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Syngene) has acquired this state-of-the-art biologics facility from Emergent Manufacturing Operations Baltimore, LLC (a subsidiary of Emergent BioSolutions Inc.), which will expand Syngene’s growing global biologics footprint to better serve customers in the human and animal health market segments. The new facility will increase Syngene’s total single-use bioreactor capacity to 50,000 liters for large molecule discovery, development and manufacturing services. In addition, it will provide Syngene’s customers with continuous supply from its four development and manufacturing facilities in India and North America, providing services ranging from cell line development and process optimization to clinical and commercial supply.

Syngene’s investment in its first facility in the US signals its strategic commitment to the US market, which will bring significant benefits to the local economy and the broader life sciences industry. The facility is expected to create jobs, stimulate local economic activity, strengthen domestic biologics manufacturing capabilities, while also contributing to pharmaceutical innovation and supply chain resiliency. This investment highlights the potential for deeper economic collaboration between India and the United States, fostering continued economic growth and advancing the shared goal of strengthening critical healthcare infrastructure.

Syngene CEO-designate Peter Bains said: "With one of the largest biologics R&D teams and commercial-scale manufacturing capabilities in India and the United States, we now offer a compelling and flexible solution to our global pharmaceutical and biotech customers. This investment will enable Syngene to meet growing customer needs in an expanding market. It will also provide customers with the collective service capabilities of multiple geographic locations, scientists and experience."

Syngene Senior Vice President of Development and Manufacturing Services Alex Del Priore added: "This facility is a major milestone for Syngene, designed to meet growing customer needs in the fastest growing biologics market in the United States. It enhances our service offering to animal health customers seeking USDA approval for their products. Most importantly, it increases the options we can offer our global customers, providing commercial-scale biologics manufacturing capabilities across our global network and will be supported by existing key customer programs."
