ECHEMI 2025-03-17

Coromandel International Limited, one of India’s leading agricultural solutions providers, has inaugurated its second sulphur manufacturing plant at its Visakhapatnam facility in Andhra Pradesh.

The Visakhapatnam plant is a fully backward-integrated unit of the company that produces around 12 million tonnes of compound fertilizers along with phosphoric and sulphuric acids. The plant also houses a sulphur fertilizer plant with a production capacity of 25,000 tonnes. With the inauguration of this new plant, the company’s sulphur fertilizer production capacity will double, ensuring a steady supply of high-quality bentonite sulphur fertilizers to farmers.

The expansion marks a major step for Coromandel to strengthen its position in the specialty nutrition market and reinforces its commitment to Indian agriculture.

The new plant is equipped with advanced German technology and capabilities to fortify sulphur fertilizers with multiple micronutrients to address the growing nutrient deficiency issues in Indian soils. In addition to production, the plant also lays the foundation for the research and development of new sulphur fertilizers designed to meet the crop and geography specific needs of Indian agriculture.

S Sankarasubramanian, Managing Director and CEO, Coromandel International Limited, said at the inauguration ceremony, "At Coromandel, we are committed to providing innovative and sustainable agricultural solutions to farmers. By continuously enhancing our infrastructure and expanding our capacity, we ensure a steady supply of fertilizers, thereby promoting long-term health of the soil while increasing productivity. Over the next 4-5 years, this plant will play a key role in effectively meeting the growing demand for bentonite sulphur fertilizers across India. This milestone is in line with our long-term vision to promote agricultural growth through technology and farmer-centric initiatives."
