DuPont Names Jon Kemp CEO of New Electronics Company Ahead of Major Spin-Off
On March 17, DuPont announced that Jon Kemp, the current president of its Electronics and Industrial division, will serve as the CEO and board member of the upcoming electronics company, which is set to spin off and become an independent entity. This new company aims to lead the global semiconductor and electronics materials market.
Kemp has spent two decades at DuPont, focusing on strategic business growth through various leadership roles. He previously led the specialty products division during the Dow-DuPont merger and has been president of the Electronics and Industrial division for the past six years, achieving approximately $6 billion in net sales. He is also a member of the SEMI International Board and serves as chair of the Industry Leaders Committee.
Alongside Kemp, Michael Stubblefield, president and CEO of Avantor, will take on the role of board chair for the new electronics company. Avantor is a leading provider of critical products and services in the life sciences and advanced technology sectors. Stubblefield has extensive experience in the chemical industry and holds degrees in chemical engineering and business administration.
DuPont plans to recruit a Chief Financial Officer from outside the company, seeking candidates with a proven track record in public companies.
The spin-off, initially announced on January 15, 2025, is on track for completion by November 1, 2025, and will focus on becoming a leading supplier of differentiated electronic materials. The company will comprise existing semiconductor technology lines, electronic interconnect technology, and electronic-related products within its industrial solutions portfolio. With rising demand driven by trends in artificial intelligence, IoT, and autonomous vehicles, DuPont is well-positioned to capitalize on growth opportunities in the semiconductor industry.
DuPont’s product lines include adhesives, advanced printing solutions, construction materials, and healthcare solutions, among others. In 2024, DuPont reported net sales of $12.4 billion, a 3% increase from the previous year, with operational EBITDA at $3.14 billion, reflecting a 7% rise. The Electronics and Industrial segment contributed significantly to these figures, showing an 11% year-on-year increase.
Founded in 1802, DuPont started as a gunpowder manufacturer and evolved into a diversified multinational corporation, pioneering innovations in polymers and materials science over the centuries. The company has undergone significant transformations, including the merger with Dow Chemical in 2015 and subsequent spin-offs.
The upcoming spin-off marks another strategic step for DuPont, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and maximize shareholder value as it separates into three independent public companies.
