Cellasto Invests 60 Million Euros to Build Second Plant in China

ECHEMI 2025-04-16

Cellasto, a polyurethane damping component manufacturer under BASF, invested about 6 million euros to build its second plant in Shanghai, China.

The capacity expansion aims to seize the opportunities of China's booming electric vehicle market. The new plant will be equipped with advanced mold production lines, and the production capacity will be increased by nearly 70%. It is expected to be put into operation in 2027. On April 14, the factory held an expansion ceremony.

“Cellasto has always been committed to providing excellent value to automakers and has always maintained its passion for quality and efficiency. I am confident that this focus will ensure our continued success with our Chinese customers in this vital automotive market,” said Martin Jung, President of BASF’s Performance Materials division.

“Since entering the Chinese market 140 years ago, BASF has made large investments in China. Today’s expansion is another strong demonstration of BASF’s commitment to being close to the local market and customers,” added Lou Jianfeng, President and Chairman of BASF Greater China. “As a leading chemical supplier to the automotive industry, BASF is committed to leveraging its local production network, strong innovation capabilities and deep market insights to accelerate business growth in the Chinese automotive industry.”

“Four years ago, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of Cellasto and the 10th anniversary of our Shanghai plant. This year, we have taken another important step with the opening of our second plant. With our state-of-the-art facilities, we are eager to seize the opportunities presented by this dynamic market,” concluded Bjoern Kophstahl, Vice President of Cellasto.
