Lilly’s New Pill Achieves 7.9 Percent Weight Loss in Diabetics in Major Study
Eli Lilly’s experimental oral medication, orforglipron, has demonstrated promising results in a late-stage clinical trial, leading to up to 7.9% weight loss in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Unlike injectable treatments, orforglipron is a once-daily pill, offering a more convenient option for patients. The trial also showed significant reductions in HbA1c levels, a key marker of blood sugar control.
Common side effects included nausea (13–18%), diarrhea (19–26%), and vomiting (5–14%), with about 8% of participants discontinuing the treatment at the highest dose.
Eli Lilly plans to seek regulatory approval for orforglipron by the end of 2025, aiming to provide a scalable and accessible treatment option for weight management and diabetes care.
