BASF Begins Registration for Adapzo Active First HDAC-Inhibitor Fungicide for Soybeans

ECHEMI 2025-06-06

BASF has announced the official launch of the registration process for its groundbreaking fungicide Adapzo® Active (active ingredient: Flufenoxadiazam). Regulatory dossiers have been submitted to authorities in Brazil and Paraguay, with additional applications planned for Bolivia.

Adapzo Active is the world’s first fungicide based on the HDAC (histone deacetylase) inhibition mechanism, a novel technology introduced by ISO in 2021. Designed to combat Asian Soybean Rust (ASR), one of the most destructive diseases in soybean cultivation, Adapzo Active represents BASF’s commitment to innovation in crop protection.

ASR poses a severe threat to global soybean production. Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia collectively account for 44% of global soybean output but face up to 90% yield loss in the absence of effective control measures. BASF’s Vice President of Fungicide Research highlighted that Adapzo Active not only delivers exceptional protection against ASR but also outperforms existing market products. The product’s novel mode of action effectively manages resistant fungal strains, addressing a critical challenge for farmers.

Environmentally, Adapzo Active is designed to safeguard non-target organisms and beneficial insects when used as directed, aligning with modern sustainability goals. It also synergizes with BASF’s existing solutions, such as Pavecto® Active, to provide a broad-spectrum defense against multiple soybean diseases, including target spot.

Unlike generic fungicides, Adapzo Active was developed specifically for ASR control. Tailored to the needs of growers in South America’s key soybean-producing regions, this innovation combines advanced science with local agricultural insights.

BASF plans to launch formulations based on Adapzo Active in 2029, delivering a powerful tool for the sustainable growth of the global soybean industry.
