On June 9, 2021, Houston and Hong Kong news, LyondellBasell (LyondellBasell) announced the successful launch of Ulsan PP Co., Ltd.'s annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of polypropylene production facilities. The facility is located in Ulsan, a port city in South Korea, and is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Asia. Ulsan PP Co., Ltd. is a joint venture between PolyMirae Company Ltd. (a 50:50 joint venture between Lyondell Basel and DL Chemical) and SK Advanced.
“During the epidemic, Asia’s demand for polypropylene remains strong. Now, as the global economy recovers, this joint venture is in a very good position to meet the greater demand in the region,” Lyondell Basel Olefins and Polyolefins Ken Lane, executive vice president of operations, said.
The facility uses LyondellBasell's fifth-generation Spheripol PP process technology.
