Bakelite Acquires Sestec, Strengthening Bio-Based Adhesives Offering
Akelite has successfully acquired Sestec, a Polish company that produces sustainable protein-based adhesives for wood and composite products. This strategic move significantly strengthens Bakelite's sustainable adhesives portfolio.
Sestec's adhesive products are 100% bio-based and designed to promote environmental stewardship, and this acquisition is in line with Bakelite's commitment to sustainability and innovation. By integrating Sestec's technology, Bakelite expands its sustainable adhesive solutions portfolio globally and continues to assist customers in fulfilling their sustainability commitments.
"This acquisition is transformational for Bakelite," said JP Aucoin, Bakelite President and CEO. "Sestec's innovative bio-based adhesives will not only expand our product line, but also strengthen our commitment to providing sustainable solutions. This allows us to continue to stay ahead of the growing global demand for sustainable adhesives."
Sestec's adhesive systems covering applications in medium density fiberboard (MDF), high density fiberboard (HDF), particleboard, oriented strand board (OSB), straw and fiberboard, and plywood are now part of Bakelite's extensive product portfolio. The acquisition includes not only Bakelite's innovative technologies, but also Sestec's administrative offices in Kraków and its laboratories and production facilities in Česbjernia.
“Sestec represents the future of adhesives – bio-based and sustainable,” said Klaus Hofmann, CEO of Sestec. “This acquisition enables Bakelite to scale our technology globally while maintaining our commitment to sustainable innovation.” Hans Edelmann, Sestec board member and co-founder, added: “Integrating Sestec’s natural adhesive technology will strengthen Bakelite’s ability to continue to meet the growing demand for sustainable material solutions.”
