China Fusion Energy Company Launched in Shanghai Signals New Era of Global Innovation Multiple Strategic Partnerships Announced
On July 22, China Fusion Energy Co., Ltd. officially launched in Shanghai, marking a major step in the nation’s quest for commercial fusion power. As a key subsidiary under the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), the new entity will focus on system design, technology validation, digital R&D, and the creation of both technological and capital platforms to drive fusion engineering and commercialization.
At the inauguration, China Fusion Energy signed deepened cooperation agreements with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China Electric Equipment Group, Shanghai Electric Group, and Shenergy Group. The company also reached new capital partnership deals with CNNC, PetroChina Kunlun Capital, Shanghai Future Fusion, China Nuclear Power, Zhejiang Energy, the National Green Development Fund, and Sichuan Zhongke Fusion.
Fusion energy—seen as a game-changing future technology—is rapidly becoming a global strategic battleground. Shanghai is prioritizing fusion as a key pillar in its high-tech and future industries push, investing in advanced superconducting research, nurturing top-tier teams, and supporting the formation of an innovation alliance. The city aims to foster synergies across the industrial chain, optimize the innovation ecosystem, and build a world-class fusion energy innovation hub.
