Korea MFDS Proposes Major Edits to Imported Food Hygiene Rules Deadline for Public Comments Set for August 20

ECHEMI 2025-08-17

On July 31, Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced draft Notification No. 340-2025, proposing significant amendments to the hygiene requirements for special sanitary management foods. This revision aims to update the 2020-112 Notice by reorganizing referenced administrative rules and clarifying terminology—such as changing “edible part” to “part generally consumed as food”—to ensure consistency across regulations.

The proposed changes also reflect updates in export country-approved items based on the transitional measures outlined in the Special Act on Imported Food Safety Management. The MFDS is gathering public feedback on these draft amendments, with a submission deadline of August 20, 2025.

Industry stakeholders and interested parties are strongly encouraged to review the revised provisions and submit comments to ensure their concerns are addressed before the new rules are finalized.
