Weekend Epoxy Chloropropane Market Prices Surge Sharply (Sept. 1–5)
September 05, News
This weekend, the market price of epichlorohydrin in China has increased significantly. Some manufacturers have suspended quotations, and downstream demand is moderate, with purchases mainly based on need. The general attitude remains cautious with more observation. According to the monitoring and analysis system, as of September 5th, the benchmark price of epichlorohydrin was 12,100 CNY/ton, an increase of 4.31% from early September.
Price influencing factors:
On the raw materials front: This week, prices of propylene and glycerin both increased, providing strong cost support. Additionally, an unexpected incident at a leading industry player on the supply side led some companies to halt shipments, resulting in tighter spot inventories. Consequently, epoxy chloropropane prices have surged significantly. According to market analysis systems, as of September 4, the benchmark price for propylene stood at 6,678.25 CNY per ton—up 0.23% from the beginning of this month (6,663.25 CNY per ton).
On the demand side: The downstream epoxy resins market is characterized by a strong wait-and-see sentiment, with rigid demand driving procurement activities. Amidst sharp increases in raw material prices, many manufacturers remain cautious and are adopting a wait-and-see approach, showing limited willingness to purchase high-priced materials. Meanwhile, some downstream companies have tentatively raised their prices—but terminal demand hasn’t fully followed suit, resulting in lackluster actual transaction activity. Overall, demand-side support for the epichlorohydrin market remains limited.
Market Forecast: Epoxy chloropropane analysts believe that with the high cost support from glycerin and propylene, tight spot inventory in the market, and suppliers' active price push due to unexpected events, it is expected that the epoxy chloropropane market in China will maintain a steady and slightly strong trend in the near term. More attention should be paid to changes in raw material prices and market supply and demand.
