Increased Supply Leads to Volatile Decline in Isooctanol Prices This Week

ECHEMI 2025-09-16

September 15, News

This week, the price of 2-ethylhexanol in China fluctuated and declined.

According to the commodity market analysis system, as of September 15, the price of 2-ethylhexanol was 7016.67 CNY/ton, a decrease of 0.71% from the price of 7066.67 CNY/ton on September 8. This week, the operating rates of 2-ethylhexanol production facilities in China remained high and stable, with the operating rate slightly increasing to 96%. Additionally, there has been an increase in new 2-ethylhexanol production capacity, leading to an increase in supply. The downstream plasticizer enterprises maintained stable operations, but the demand for 2-ethylhexanol from plasticizers provided limited support. With the increase in supply and limited demand support, the price of 2-ethylhexanol fluctuated downward.

Downstream plasticizer DOP prices in China have stopped falling and rebounded.

According to the commodity market analysis system, as of September 15, the DOP price was 7,509.16 CNY/ton, an increase of 0.56% from the DOP price of 7,467.50 CNY/ton on September 10. The DOP price has stopped falling and rebounded, with the operating load of DOP enterprises in China increasing, and the demand for 2-ethylhexanol providing greater support. The price of 2-ethylhexanol still has upward support.

Future Market Expectation

The octanol product data analyst notes that, on the supply side, isooctanol producers are maintaining high and stable equipment utilization rates, while also benefiting from significant new production capacity coming online—leading to an oversupply of isooctanol. On the demand front, DOP prices have halted their decline and begun rebounding, providing continued support for isooctanol demand. Looking ahead, with both increasing supply and steady demand support in place, the analyst expects isooctanol prices to stabilize amid ongoing market volatility.
