I. Price Trends
According to Spotcom data, the price of soda ash fell in June. At the beginning of the month, the average market price of light soda ash was 1,176 CNY/ton, and by the end of the month, it was around 1,156 CNY/ton. The price decreased by 20 CNY/ton during the month, a 1.70% decrease.
II. Market Analysis
According to Spotcom data, the soda ash market trend in June continued to decline. On the supply side, soda ash plants resumed operations, and the operating rate increased, leading to a simultaneous increase in total production, which intensified the pressure on companies to sell their products. In terms of demand, the downstream glass industry had a low operating rate, with companies mainly using up their inventories, resulting in generally weak demand for soda ash. The fundamental situation of the soda ash market in China continued to show strong supply and weak demand, putting pressure on soda ash prices, which continued to fall during the month.
As of June 30, 2026, the mainstream market price of light soda ash in East China is around 1,070-1,560 CNY/ton, a decrease of 30 CNY/ton month-over-month; in Central China, the mainstream price of light soda ash is around 990-1,100 CNY/ton, a decrease of 60-100 CNY/ton month-over-month; in North China, the mainstream price of light soda ash is around 1,150-1,250 CNY/ton, a decrease of 30 CNY/ton month-over-month.
On the demand side: According to the commodity analysis system, glass prices have shown a weak downward trend this month. The average market price of glass has dropped from 13.25 yuan per square meter to 12.70 yuan per square meter, representing an overall price decrease of 4.15%. The glass industry currently enjoys ample supply, while downstream sectors have entered the off-season for demand, resulting in subdued trading activity. The market situation—characterized by high supply and low demand—remains unchanged, thereby limiting any upward pressure on glass prices and keeping the market operating at lower levels throughout the month.
Future Market Forecast: Currently, spot supply of soda ash remains at a high level, and inventory pressure in the market is evident. Meanwhile, the downstream glass industry is slowly destocking, with purchasing of soda ash largely driven by immediate needs. The overall market sentiment is bearish. It is expected that the soda ash market will continue to trade within a narrow range in the near term; specific attention should be paid to how quickly market inventories are being depleted.
