September China's titanium dioxide market sees steady growth with some increases

ECHEMI 2025-10-01

September 30 update

I. Price Trends

Take China's sulfate-process rutile titanium dioxide, which sees significant sales volume in the Chinese market, as an example. According to data monitoring, the Chinese titanium dioxide market experienced steady growth in September. On September 1, the average price of titanium dioxide was 13,480 CNY per ton, while by September 30, the average price had risen to 13,820 CNY per ton—a 2.52% increase.

II. Market Analysis

The Chinese titanium dioxide market in September was stable with a slight increase. This month, Tianyuan, Titanium Sea, Guocheng, and Haifengxin issued letters to raise prices. The Longqi Hubei factory has gradually shut down production. The raw material end, such as titanium concentrate, remains relatively firm, and under cost pressure, manufacturers have a strong desire to maintain prices. So far, the quotations for Chinese sulfate process rutile titanium dioxide mostly range between 13,200 and 14,200 CNY per ton; anatase type ranges around 11,700 to 12,500 CNY per ton, with actual transaction prices negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

From relevant media, it was learned that on September 22, 2025, the Indian High Court canceled the government's decision to impose anti-dumping duties on titanium dioxide imported from China. At the same time, due to the possibility that the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) may reopen the investigation, the uncertainty still exists. However, this presents a certain positive factor for the recent titanium dioxide market.

According to customs data, the export volume of titanium dioxide in August 2025 was approximately 138,736 tons, an increase of 11.26% month-over-month and a decrease of 36.17% year-over-year. The cumulative export volume from January to August was about 1,190,108 tons, a decrease of 7.98% year-over-year. In August, the export volume of titanium dioxide produced by the chloride process was 24,985 tons, an increase of 1.86% month-over-month. The export volume of titanium dioxide produced by the sulfate process was 113,751 tons, an increase of 3.14% month-over-month.

According to customs data, in August 2025, China imported 3,431.18 tons of titanium dioxide, a decrease of 46.63% year-on-year and 53.04% month-on-month. Of this amount, 1,887.10 tons were imported via the chloride process, while 1,554.08 tons came through the sulfuric acid process.

From January to August 2025, China’s total titanium dioxide imports reached 50,500 tons, representing a 20.16% decline compared to the same period last year. Specifically, imports of sulfuric acid-based titanium dioxide stood at 19,700 tons, up 0.30% year-on-year, whereas chloride-process titanium dioxide imports fell by 29.40% to 30,700 tons during the same period.

III. Market Forecast

Titanium dioxide analysts believe: This month, the Chinese titanium dioxide market is stable with an upward trend. Multiple titanium dioxide companies have issued letters to increase the price of titanium dioxide. The Indian court's decision to cancel the anti-dumping duties on titanium dioxide imported from China is beneficial to the recent titanium dioxide market. It is expected that in the short term, the titanium dioxide market will remain stable and improve, with actual transaction prices negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
