Federation of Indian Exports Organisation Seeks Uniform GST for Leather and Text
The Federation of Indian Exports Organisation today sought support from State governments for uniform Goods and Services Tax rates for textiles and leather sectors as the industry contributes to the development of the State through creation of job opportunities.
“Export sector contributes immensely for the development of states, especially by creating huge employment opportunities. Hence there is a need to take care of the apprehension of exporters,” FIEO Southern Region, Regional Chairman, A Sakthivel said in a statement.
Recently, a delegation led by Sakthivel and FIEO President M Rafeeque Ahmed had called on Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar at the Secretariat, seeking government support on GST related issues.
In his response, Jayakumar was quoted as saying in the statement that the government would support the traders and assured them that he would take up their concerns during the next GST Council meet.
The textile and leather sector nearly employs 12 crore people, Sakthivel said.
A low GST rate applied uniformly across the sectors would propel domestic production, he added.
