China-Urumqi International Textile Center Launches First Project
The Urumqi International Textile and Clothing Trade Center launched its first project, Xinjiang Tongchuang City, on May 19.
The center is an important project to push forward the development of Xinjiang’s textile and clothing industry, expected to create millions of jobs for local people.
“With a 2.5 billion yuan ($360 million) investment, Xinjiang Tongchuang City is expected to be put into operation in 2020,” said Chen Gang, an official from the economic development zone.
Ma Zaiwen, project investor, said that Xinjiang Tongchuang City will be supported by regional advantages, attracting the commercial marketing headquarters of medium- and high-end clothing brands to Tongchuang. The project will provide entertainment, shopping, education, professional training and modern services for local residents.
After the completion of the project, 5000 direct job opportunities will be created, with indirect employment for more than 15,000 people. The textile center’s annual turnover is expected to exceed 10 billion yuan.
“The textile and clothing trade center is meaningful for the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt,” said Zhang Junxiang, director of the administrative committee.
The Urumqi International Textile and Clothing Trade Center covers an area of 149.27 hectares and includes commercial expositions, e-businesses and the headquarters of clothing brands, designers and training centers. The market turnover of the center is expected to hit 30 billion yuan annually, with a total tax revenue of 2 billion yua
