China-grain-production-is-expected-to-remain-stable

This year, China's grain production is expected to remain stable. The sown area of rice, wheat and maize will be stabilized at 1.438 billion mu. The area of soybean is expected to increase by about 10 million mu. Agricultural product prices are expected to be stable on the whole, and volatility risks of some varieties will increase.

This is what the reporter learned from the 2019 China Agricultural Outlook Conference held in Beijing on the 20th. The meeting was supported by the Market Early Warning Expert Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas and sponsored by the Institute of Agricultural Information, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The China Agricultural Outlook Report (2019-2028) was released at the meeting.

The report shows that the guarantee ability and quality efficiency of China's agricultural supply system will be further improved in 2019. The planting area of rice and wheat in low-quality and low-efficiency areas has been reduced appropriately, and the results of maize structural adjustment in non-dominant areas have been consolidated. Rapeseed production in the Yangtze River Basin will achieve rapid development. The production of silage maize, alfalfa and other high-quality forage will increase. Animal husbandry and fishery production will increase steadily. The shortage and supply of green high-quality agricultural products will continue to increase.

Agricultural product prices are expected to be stable on the whole, and volatility risks of some varieties are increased. The characteristics of high quality and high price of rice, wheat and fruit, as well as the booming market will be more obvious. The relationship between supply and demand of maize will change from loose to basically balanced, and the price will increase steadily.

According to the report, the interaction between domestic and foreign agricultural integration has been further strengthened. Pork imports are expected to increase by more than 40% over the previous year, reaching about 1.7 million tons. The imports of resource-intensive agricultural products such as cotton, edible vegetable oil, sugar and dairy products will continue to increase. The export of traditional superior agricultural products such as vegetables and fruits is expected to continue to grow slightly.

China Agricultural Outlook Report (2019-2028) is based on the previous five years'outlook work of the Expert Group on Agricultural Outlook. According to the recent changes in economic situation, population, crude oil price, exchange rate, policy and climate at home and abroad, China's macro-economy, agricultural policy, climate conditions, scientific and technological innovation, resource endowment and international market are comprehensively considered. The baseline forecast of the supply and demand situation of China's agricultural products market in the next 10 years is made by the national agricultural products monitoring and early warning system, which combines the research results based on expert experience.
