Shipping Capacity Will Continue To Be Restricted In The First Quarter of 2022
On December 24, Maersk Group issued a report stating that in the first quarter of 2022, due to delays in shipping schedules, shipping capacity will continue to be restricted, and it is expected that space will remain very tight during the entire Lunar New Year. Maersk particularly emphasized that 40-foot containers will be in short supply, but 20-foot containers will have a surplus. Especially in the Greater China region, there will still be a shortage of containers in some areas before the Lunar New Year.
In the main route market, Maersk expects that the capacity of the route from Asia to North America will continue to decline due to port congestion. Maersk believes that the congestion of North American ports is unlikely to improve in a short period of time, and recommends customers to appropriately extend the delivery cycle between the estimated arrival time and the actual departure time. In the Asia-North Europe route, Maersk expects that the supply chain will still affect the overall capacity, at least until the Lunar New Year, this phenomenon will continue to be very common.
During the peak period of the Spring Festival, Maersk expects that 40-foot containers on the Asia-Latin America route will be very tight. It recommends that customers provide a loading plan as soon as possible, and consider using 20-foot containers instead of 40-foot containers for early shipment.
