The LyondellBasell device Suddenly Failed! These Products Will Be Sold in Quota from May!
On April 25, LyondellBasell issued a series of quota sales notices, stating that the company was implementing the sales distribution of tert-butyl acetate, propylene glycol methyl ether acetate and other products. The allocation is based on the customer's average monthly purchases over the past 6 months (October 2021-March 2022). The program will take effect on May 1, 2022.
LyondellBasell also said that during the allocation period, customers may not borrow ahead of their monthly amount, and the unused portion of the monthly amount cannot be added to any subsequent month's amount. In addition, allocation is subject to third-party carrier availability and other logistical infrastructure constraints, including but not limited to railcars, tankers, barges/vessels, dock and port availability, and production status at our manufacturing facilities, any of which items may affect product availability, delivery dates and order fulfillment. The duration of the force majeure event cannot be determined at this time, and the allocated percentage may change as new information becomes available.
On April 15, a mechanical failure occurred at LyondellBasell's carbon monoxide supply system for its acetic acid feedstock in La Porte, Texas. Therefore, LyondellBasell really declared force majeure on products such as tert-butyl acetate and ethylene glycol ether acetate (EBA, DBA) on April 22.
According to data from LyondellBasell's official website, La Porte Complex consists of two subsidiaries of LyondellBasell, which is also the third largest glacial acetic acid production base in the world. In 2019, the company acquired Praxair-Linder's hydrogen and carbon monoxide gas plants.
Among them, Equistar Chemicals mainly produces ethylene, propylene, linear low density polyethylene and low density polyethylene.
LyondellBasell's Acetyls business mainly includes the production of acetic acid and vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) and a complex of downstream products. The acetic acid produced by this unit meets food-grade requirements for transportation within the food industry, with applications including terephthalic acid, industrial solvents and other chemicals. Vinyl acetate is used to make a variety of products, including water-based coatings, adhesives, textile and paper coatings.
The complex also includes a Hyperzone polyethylene plant, which expands U.S. high-density polyethylene (HDPE) capacity.
