What Is N-Propanol?

N-Propanol, also known as 1-propanol, is an organic compound with the molecular formula C3H8O and molecular weight 60.10. It is a colorless and transparent liquid with the odor of ethanol and is soluble in water, ethanol and ether. It is obtained from ethylene by carbonyl synthesis of propionaldehyde, and then by reduction. Mainly used as a solvent, also can replace the lower boiling point of ethanol as a solvent, but also used in color layer analysis.

N-Propanol Market Status

● In 2021, N-Propanol Will Fall And Rise, And The Annual Decline Will Be 24%

According to data monitoring, at the beginning of 2021, the average ex-factory price of n-propanol in the domestic market was 11,800 CNY/ton, and the average ex-factory price of n-propanol at the end of the year was 8,883 CNY/ton, a drop of 24.72% for the whole year. On the 19th, the price of n-propanol was 8833.33 CNY/ton, down 500 CNY/ton from the beginning of the month, a decrease of 5.36%.

● Chemical Raw Materials Fell Collectively

Yesterday (19th), Wanhua Chemical’s quotation of n-butanol was 15,300 CNY/ton in North China, 15,600 CNY/ton in East China, and 15,800 CNY/ton in South China, both lower than the previous week’s quotation by 1,000 CNY/ton. On the 19th, the price of n-propanol was 8833.33 CNY/ton, down 500 CNY/ton from the beginning of the month, a decrease of 5.36%.

● Shortage of Raw Materials

According to the British Coatings Federation (BCF), printing ink manufacturers across Europe reported reduced supplies of ethanol and n-propanol. These are the key inputs for the production of printing packaging inks and other materials (such as varnishes), which are essential for the production of consumer packaging.

● Wanhua Chemical Products Continue to Have Low Prices

Recently, Wanhua Chemical released a product quotation sheet, and the prices of a variety of products have declined with greater intensity. The price of n-propanol was 9,200 CNY/ton, down 666.67 CNY/ton from the quotation at the beginning of the month, a decrease of 6.76%.

● A Variety of Chemical Raw Materials Plummeted

On the 28th, the price of n-propanol was 9333.33 CNY/ton, down 1,800 CNY/ton from the beginning of the month, or 16.17%. At present, the domestic n-propanol market maintains stable operation, the trading atmosphere on the market is deserted, downstream demand is indifferent, new orders are generally traded, the n-propanol has been under pressure for many days, and the inventory has accumulated. The Shandong and Jiangsu n-propanol factories reported Disk prices fell sharply. The operating rate of the downstream factories of the terminal is low, and the sales resistance of the secondary traders remains unabated. The current price of n-propanol has basically reached the bottom.

● The Prices of Dozens of Chemical Raw Materials

On the 17th, the price of n-propanol was 8833.33 CNY/ton, down 500 CNY/ton or 5.36% from the beginning of the month. After the May holiday, the domestic n-propanol market as a whole maintained a weak and stable operation. Distributors in individual regions reduced the ex-factory price of n-propanol slightly by 100-200 CNY/ton due to inventory pressure. Restricted by demand pressure, spot suppliers of n-propanol in Shandong lowered the ex-factory price of n-propanol by around RMB 300-600/ton.
