Pfizer's $11.6 Billion Double-acting Migraine Drug Generates $318 Million in First-half Revenue

ECHEMI 2022-08-09

According to Biohaven's financial report, the double-acting migraine drug rimegepant (trade name: Nurtec) has sales revenue of US$318 million in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 132%, of which revenue in the second quarter was US$194 million, an increase of 109% year-on-year and a month-on-month increase of 57%. This is mainly due to the substantial increase in Nurtec's sales in the United States.

Rimegepant is an oral CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide) receptor antagonist that inhibits the biological activity of CGRP neuropeptide by reversibly blocking the CGRP receptor, thereby exerting a therapeutic effect. In February 2020, the product was first approved by the FDA for the treatment of acute migraine in adults; in May 2021, the new indication was expanded for the prevention of episodic migraine in adults.

In May 2022, Pfizer entered into a definitive agreement with Biohaven to acquire the latter for approximately $11.6 billion in cash and acquire the CGRP program, including rimegepant, zavegepant and 5 preclinical programs.
